Details- This hotel is located in the heart of San Gimignano, known as the "Medieval Manhattan" because of its ancient towers that rule the skyline. The hotel itself is loaded with history. It was built in the 15th century as a town house around one of the town's original wells (that can still be seen from the lobby and the floor below). In the 17th century, a religious order lived here conducting trials of the Inquisition within its walls. In the18th century the Pink Salon was used as a high society ballroom. Today the Pink Salon is a beautiful breakfast room in this hotel that makes for a great base in Tuscany. Siena (30 minutes), the vineyards of Chianti (45 minutes), Florence (1 hour) and Assisi (2 hours) are easy day trips from here.

Notes- The beautiful rooms feature wood beam or frescoed ceilings, antique tables and armoires, wrought iron beds (some are 4 poster) and amenities such as air conditioning, mini bars, safes and hair dryers. While all the rooms are nice the Jr. Suites are much larger and worthwhile. The hotel has a small bar area with internet access and an outdoor patio. While this hotel does not offer the views that others do, we feel it has the most Old World charm in town.
