If you are spending a number of days in Athens you might decide to take a day trip to one of the other nearby sights. Here are a few options. There are a large number of tour companies offering these or very similar excursions, and you can book them at their offices or ask your hotel to arrange one for you. Cape Sounion Half Day Tour

Drive along the coast past many popular beaches and small islands to the southern tip of Attica, Cape Sounion. Here you will have time to walk among the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon, god of the sea. Wonderful views of the Saronic Gulf! Expect to pay about $60 for this tour.

Ancient Corinth Half Day Tour

Drive southwest towards the amazing Corinth Canal which connects the Aegean and Ionian Seas. After a short stop you continue to the ancient city of Corinth where the remains of the city include the agora (marketplace) and Apollo's Temple - evidence of how important Corinth was in ancient times. Expect to pay about $90 for this tour.

Delphi Full Day Tour

Drive to the center of the ancient world, Delphi. Here on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, lie the ruins of the sanctuary of Apollo Pythios. Visit the Treasury of the Athenians, Temple of Apollo, and a museum containing several masterpieces of Ancient Greek sculpture including the bronze Charioteer and the athlete Aghias. Most tours will include lunch in modern Delphi. Expect to pay about $150 for this tour.

Argolis Full Day Tour

Drive to the amazing Corinth Canal which connects the Aegean and Ionian Seas and on to Mycenae to visit the beehive tombs and the Lions Gate. Next stop for lunch in the beautiful seaside village of Nafplion. The final stop is in Epidauros to visit the 4th Century B.C. Theater famous for its acoustics. Expect to pay about $150 for this tour.

Hydra, Poros and Aegina Full Day Cruise

Depart Athens by bus to the port where you will board your boat. Your full day cruise includes stops at Hydra, Poros and Aegina. Total amount of time at each stop varies. Lunch is served on the boat, and an optional excursion to see the Temple of Afea Athena is usually available. Expect to pay about $150 for this tour.
